WHO WE ARE
Together with Rocky Ridge Royal Oak Community Association (RRROCA), the City of Calgary and Parks Foundation Calgary, the Play Together Project is a community-driven initiative committed to revitalizing our neighborhood playground in NW Calgary. Our mission is to bring together families, local residents, schools and businesses to create a safe and engaging play space for all children. We believe in the power of community and aim to foster connections through shared experiences and collaborative efforts. Join us as we work towards a brighter, more inclusive future for our children and community.
The Play Together Project committee consists of a small group of dedicated and passionate neighbors who have stepped forward to volunteer their time and energy to this project. We meet and communicate regularly to coordinate our efforts for researching, planning, fundraising, advocating, canvassing and designing our new playground. We are always looking to welcome new members to our team! Please contact us at parkslead@rrroca.org if you are interested in joining us, or attending one of our upcoming meetings.
Why does the playground need to be replaced?

The Royal Oak Way playground was once a well-loved gathering place for local families. The playground is centrally located between the Royal Oak and Rocky Ridge communities, making it a natural gathering place for local families. Situated along a main road and within walking distance of two community schools, it is an ideal location for a vibrant, accessible playground that can serve thousands of children and families for years to come.
Several years ago, the original play structure was removed because it no longer met current safety standards. It was replaced with a small collection of play equipment intended as a temporary solution. Unfortunately, due to limited resources, that temporary installation remained in place, leaving our community with a playground that no longer meets the needs of today's children.
Community feedback has been clear: families want a modern, inclusive playground that welcomes children of all ages and abilities. Backed by 97% community support, the Play Together Project and RRROCA are working together with residents, local businesses, schools and community partners to transform this space into a destination where children can play, explore, connect, and thrive for generations to come.
COMMUNITY VISION
Building a Playground Where Every Child Belongs.
Our vision is to create a vibrant, more accessible and inclusive playground that brings people together and reflects the needs of our growing community. We envision a welcoming destination where children of all ages and abilities can play side by side, families can connect, and neighbours can build lasting relationships.
Inspired by community feedback, we are working toward incorporating playground features that are accessible and inclusive. Our community-driven wish list currently includes: opportunities for climbing, swinging, sliding, sensory exploration, and imaginative play, along with natural elements, shaded gathering spaces, and seating for caregivers. Designed to be a place for connection, adventure, and discovery, the playground will serve as a community hub where every child feels welcome and every family has a place to belong.
